Since people seemed to have such a good time at the dance class/event on Friday night I thought it would be fun to attend the a Greek Folk dance class at the Greek American Folklore Society (GAFS) in Astoria. Because the space is small I have limited the RSVP list to 10 attendees, so please make sure to only RSVP yes is you are sure you can attend.
Please note that there is an earlier class from 7:30 - 8:30 (details below) that I will NOT be attending. I will arrive between 8:15 and 8:30 for the second class.
Plan to bring/wear shoes that will be comfortable for dancing. The class goes until about 10 pm, but you are free to leave earlier if you need to get home. If anyone is interested perhaps we can go grab a drink together afterwards.
Class details:
7:30 - 8:30: Zeibekiko, Hasapiko, Tsiftadeli taught by Elias Marneris (JAY WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THIS CLASS)
8:30 - 10:00: Folk dance, taught by three teachers, including Vaia Ginis Allagianis, sister of founder Paul Ginis
In the folk classes, they cover dances from all over Greece, from the most essential, like Kalamatiano and Tsamiko, to the less common but equally fun dances of Pontos, Epiros, and the Ionian Islands (for example). Classes are ongoing, and you can join at any time. If you have a specific request let me know ahead of time and we can ask to learn your requests.
Transportation:
N/W train to Ditmars Blvd (last stop), walk to the corner of Ditmars and turn left at the Starbucks. Walk down Ditmars six blocks (to Crescent Street, you will see "Fatty's Cafe" on the corner. Turn right, and GAFS is the second door on the left side of the street - a tan/beige, one-story building.
