On September 23rd, Henry P. Maguire of Johns Hopkins University will talk about two of my favorite topics - the environment and the Byzantine Empire - when he lectures on "Nectar and Illusion: Nature and Rhetoric in Byzantium" at the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library in Georgetown. Dumbarton Oaks houses the Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Collection, one of the finest collections of artifacts from the Byzantine Empire anywhere.

The 5:30 start time is pretty inconvenient, and Dumbarton Oaks is no where near a Metro stop, but let me know if anyone is interested in attending.
